altTour Further LLC begins with client safety and lowering risk. Every guide has extensive training involving four distinct disciplines: formal guide training, professional snow safety qualification, backcountry medical and rescue training, and practicing Leave No Trace ethics.

Guide Training: Offering the highest level of mountaineering education and mentorship programs found in the United States, all Tour Further guides are trained by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) and our Chief guide is certified by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA). Guides are certified in a variety Rock, Alpine and Ski disciplines, and have extensive experience skiing technical terrain and navigating mountain ranges around the world. The AMGA guide and instructor courses that Tour Further guides are trained in focus on client care that involves advanced pacing techniques, route-finding skills and teaching effective use of terrain. Professional guide training is designed to keep every client in low risk situations. Additionally, leadership skills blend ecology, environmental awareness and backcountry ethics so that clients gain experience and understanding throughout the entire day, not just during the ski descent.

altSnow Safety: In addition to being a core component of the AMGA Ski and Mountaineering programs, formal training in snow-safety and backcountry travel techniques are required for all Tour Further LLC guides. All guides have a Level 3 avalanche course certification or equivalent. Also, continuing education such as snow science workshops, advanced meteorological forecasting, hazard evaluation and terrain management are encouraged, while annual career development and recertification programs are mandatory.

Medical and Rescue: All Tour Further employees are required to have Emergency Medical Technician status, be a current Outdoor Emergency Care provider, or have completed a Wilderness First Responder course. Additionally, all guides have received CPR training approved by the American Red Cross and certification cards of all Tour Further guides are current. Given the remote locations of the services provided by Tour Further, all guides and employees included within the Risk Management Plan participate in regular mock scenarios and rescue exercises that ensure their abilities to respond to emergencies in the wilderness.

Leave No Trace: Sound environmental ethics and travel practices, taught by Leave No Trace, are the final essential component of Tour Further. Guides are educated in practices geared towards minimizing impact and allowing clients to better understand ecologies by leaving pristine environments exactly as they are. Guide techniques, aimed at minimizing impact, include sufficient preparation, traveling on appropriate surfaces, proper disposal of waste, preserving the wilderness without disruption, being respectful towards wildlife, all while remaining aware and considerate of other visitors.
