When travelling and skiing in Argentina during the southern hemisphere's winter season, running from June through October, the massive ski resort of Las Lenas is an absolute must. Situated in the northern territory of Central Patagonia, Las Lenas offers steep skiing in the Andes, a deep intercontinental snow pack and five star accommodation. There is no doubt that the best skiers end the world spend their summer months in the maze of couloirs accessed by the infamous Marte chairlift, Tour Further recommends a stay of at least one week in order to develop an appreciation of the sheer size and complexities of the Las Lenas valley. In addition to off-piste ski tours in the Hermoso Valley and the Desecho River drainage, we highly suggest that all clients attempt a descent of the Cerro Las Lenas massif, which is considered the Grand Teton of South America. A descent of the peak can be either completed in a strenuous 10-12 hour day, or broken into a 2-day adventure for clients wishing to bivouac in the back country for an evening. Once on the summit, over 7000 feet of couloirs and steep faces bring clients straight back down to the base area. Hiring a guide in Las Lenas cost $100 for the first person and an additional $50 for each additional client, up to a group of 4. |
